Back to Listingϲַȫ welcomes new regent Lee Stein to the board
Lee Stein will begin his term on the ϲַȫ this week, the governor’s office announced on Tuesday.
“On behalf of the ϲַȫ, I commend Governor Hobbs for her appointment of Mr. Stein, an accomplished and respected legal mind,” ϲַȫ Chair Cecilia Mata said. “Mr. Stein is a nationally recognized leader and attorney with decades of experience representing the interests of the state of Arizona and our nation, particularly in the areas of Title IX and student rights.”
Gov. Katie Hobbs Stein to fill the vacancy left when Regent Bob Herbold resigned in February for health reasons. Stein will finish out the remainder of Herbold’s term, which runs through January 2028.
Lee is a former assistant U.S. attorney and special assistant attorney general in the Arizona Attorney General’s office. He is an accomplished trial lawyer with expertise in government affairs and Title IX. Lee also regularly represents students and advocates for their constitutional rights.
“Mr. Stein’s tenacity, self-determination, and extensive experience will be instrumental in advancing higher education in our state and elevating the values that make our universities exceptional,” Mata said. “I look forward to working with him to advance the interests of Arizona’s public universities and gaining his perspectives on the unique challenges and opportunities in the evolving space of higher education.”
